Welcome to the Green Team! We're working for Environmental Justice!

JOIN US!   ALL ARE WELCOME!
Visit our Green Team Table on Sunday mornings for further information.
Minutes of past meetings are here.

The Green Team meets via Zoom on the 4th Wednesday of the Month from 1:30-3:00pm.

The Green Team advocates and educates to promote environmental justice and a sustainable way of life.  We seek to connect with the millions of organizations in the world who are working everyday to solve Earth's environmental challenges. The UU 7th Principle: "Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part"  inspires us to be drivers of change locally, on the Unitarian Universalists of Sarasota campus, and in partnership with organizations all over the region, State, nation, and globe.

Humanity Day Watch Party Saturday,  October 26, from noon to 6 pm
We are participating in the watch party on Saturday, October 26, from noon till 6 pm in the Lexow Wing. We will hear from world-class speakers as well as grassroots heroes and ordinary people—and experience new possibilities, ancient wisdom, art and activism. And we'll be inspired and challenged to continue to grow as humanity.
This event is open to the public and people will be encouraged to drop in and watch the sessions that they are interested in. This is a global event and we were part of the environmental session last year.

LOCATING OUR HOME IN
THE HEART OF HUMANITY

Humanity Day is an annual celebration of global humanity. Needed now more than ever, it brings us together to envision and create a future that's different from the past in how we care for one another and the Earth.

We'll hear from world-class speakers as well as grassroots heroes and ordinary people—and experience new possibilities, ancient wisdom, art and activism. And we'll be inspired and challenged to continue to grow as humanity.

Humanity Day 2024 features six hours of dedicated programming:

Session 1: Opening Doors to the Heart of Humanity
Session 2: Global Convening - Celebrating Connections and Local Events
Session 3: Our Relationship to a Flourishing Planet and Environment
Session 4: A Call to Action, Causing the Flourishing of Humanity
Session 5: The Heart of Compassion - a Call to Conscience
Session 6: Launching the Flourishing of Humanity as a Created Future

We presented this program in collaboration with WSLR-Fogartyville and Generating Earth Connections. We invited 115 Regional Environmental Leaders and All those Who Care about Mother Earth! Speakers include: Tom Matrullo, journalist and Susan Schoettle, attorney.  For a full press release, including information on the speakers and environmental organizations, click here. Click on the Play button in the image above to watch the recording from this year's event. Check out the recording from last year on our YouTube channel.

UPDATES AND RULES REGARDING OUR NEW COMPOSTING PROGRAM
Picture

Composting is now available at UUSRQ.

Compost bins are open on Sundays from before Forum to after Church. Other times you can leave your compost once you have the Lock code.  Ask at the bin and you’ll have the code. (Help is available at the bin for the next month or so from Landscaping and Green Team members). Please follow the guidelines carefully of what can be composted. We are so happy you are bringing your food scraps.  Thank You!

Environmental Justice

Creating a sustainable (people, planet and profit) way of life is central to the Green Team’s view of a just and compassionate world. We care for our environment so that it may sustain life for generations to come.

Food Justice

All life is interconnected. Ethical eating recognizes the moral consequences of our food choices. The ways our societies raise, buy, and consume our food have direct effects on the earth, plants and animals, and humans who work to make our food available. Food Justice requires healthy soil for all.
