Rising Above the Storm: Our Community's Strength
and Our Call to Action
In the wake of Hurricane Milton's landfall last week, I am once again struck by the incredible resilience and compassion of our community. As we come together to rebuild and recover, our community's unwavering spirit serves as a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we stand united.

As we continue our recovery efforts, we must also look ahead to another crucial moment for our state. With the general election fast approaching, our work to inform and empower voters has never been more important. This coming weekend marks our next Weekend of Action, a pivotal opportunity to channel our community's strength into our ongoing voter education and engagement efforts.

Good Trouble Updates:
We're in the home stretch! With just three weeks until the November 5th election, we need your help to reach our goal of contacting 9,500 voters and passing Amendment 4. If you have postcards, please return them immediately for counting and mailing. Every card counts in this final push!
Sign-up for Upcoming Events:

Beyond the Storm: Mobilizing for a Weekend of Action
Just as we've come together to support one another in the aftermaths of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, we must unite to ensure every voice in our community is heard. The upcoming Weekend of Action is our chance to make a significant impact, building on the progress we've already made in contacting voters and working towards our ambitious goals. Together, we can weather any storm and build a stronger, more engaged Florida.

Learn more about The Democracy Action Team:

The Board of Trustees has set a goal
aspiring to be a Good Trouble congregation, a designation set up by
The Unitarian Universalist Association named for John Lewis, the late Civil Rights leader and Georgia congressman.  We're stepping up to answer the rallying cry, igniting our communities to join together in a powerful movement for democracy.

This community-organizing project is connected to UU the Vote, a non-partisan effort that began during the last presidential election as a way to engage people in voter registration, issue education, get-out-the-vote drives, voter protection, state leadership development and more. UU the Vote shifted from just election-year organizing to year-round movement-building to shape an inclusive democracy.

We are collaborating closely with state advocacy networks and other regional partners. Aligning with social movements that situate their electoral work within broader struggles for liberation is a key goal of the Democracy Action Team. This objective also connects directly to the Unitarian Universalist values of justice, interdependence, equity, transformation, pluralism, and generosity.

The Democracy Action Team is providing workshops and ongoing communication open to the broader community with the goal of informing citizens about the more than 68 elections that will be occurring across the Sarasota region in the next six months. The focus of these programs is to educate about how the electoral process works and where the candidates stand on the issues.

Tell Congress to Protect Voting Rights - The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act would restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act, repairing the damage done to it by the Supreme Court and modernizing the most successful civil rights law in history. The Freedom to Vote Act would protect voters' voices, end partisan gerrymandering, minimize the influence of dark money in politics, and counter undemocratic and dangerous election sabotage efforts.  Tell Your Members of Congress: Vote YES on legislation to protect and strengthen voting rights.
