Location of the wren nest

As previously noted, a Carolina Wren had built a well hidden nest in a planter on the Lexow Porch, laid her eggs and the eggs had hatched. The fledglings chirped, moved around a bit and very quickly were trying out their wings, soon to be off to a life of their own. Sadly, one did not make it; a hawk swooped down and took off with the baby bird. It made us feel bad, but rationally, we knew that we were just seeing nature play its way out in our small courtyard. Yes, it was nature’s way, but we were still sad.

I wonder how many time that hawk has saved us the bother and expense of hiring an exterminator to rid the campus of vermin. We share the wonders of Florida with many creatures, some less desirable than others. In many ways, the hawk is a defense against "deplorables."
