Background Information
On the fourth Sunday of each month, the Unitarian Universalists of Sarasota community donates our collected cash and checks to an organization chosen by our Social Justice Committee. Our purpose is to raise awareness within the congregation of social justice concerns in the region and to allow our community to provide direct support to organizations that fit into the framework of the UU SRQ strategic plan, specific social justice resolutions, or major initiatives. The Social Justice Committee welcomes nominations from members and pledging friends.

Criteria for Receiving a Share the Plate Donation
- The organization must be a 501(c) (3) or a Florida-registered not-for-profit tax-exempt organization.
- The organization must be local to the Sarasota or Florida area.
- The request must be for an organization, not an individual.
- The organization’s values must be congruent with our UU principles.
- The organization’s clients must benefit directly from our relatively small financial donations.
- At least one UU SRQ member or pledging friend must have personal knowledge and commitment to the organization, preferably as a volunteer with the organization.
