From Our Stewardship Leader
Joan Bennett, Chair
Dear Members and Friends:
It has been an exciting year in the life of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota. The Reverend Jay Wolin delivered his first sermon as our called minister on August 14th and there has been an aura of excitement and vitality on our campus and among our growing congregation (60 new members since May). The past few months have witnessed our acceptance of “The Remembrance Project,” the renewal of our commitment to “Embracing our Differences,” our very visible presence at meetings of the school board and New College. We continue to be a leader on social justice issues in the community, so not only are we “Embracing our Differences,” we are making a difference, but We Can Do More!
We Can Do More! is the theme for the stewardship campaign this year and Rev. Wolin is showing us how “We Can Do More!” by being active in the community and by conducting classes on how we can be advocates for the causes that are dear to us, causes that are growing in number.
This welcome growth in membership does bring growing pains. We are committed to providing a multi-platform presentation of any congregational gathering so that you can have a virtual presence and stay connected to UUCS wherever you are. In addition, growth in membership has placed increased demands on Rev. Wolin and our excellent and very busy staff. Finally, inflation is a subject you all know well.
Our average pledge increased 14% last year, a tremendous response to our Stewardship Campaign, thank you. Our pledge goal increase this year is 20%, approximately $250 per member. We know you pledge according to your needs, and we appreciate whatever you can do, and with your help, We Can Do More!
And to quote Rev. Wolin, “with a grateful heart,”
