Dear Friends and Members,
Our 2020 Pledge campaign is about 20/20 vision. Roger retired at the end of March without the party we planned or the closure we needed. We know in our heads that ministerial change is inevitable, but our hearts are especially unsettled. Mine certainly is. We know it’s not easy to find an excellent minister whom we grow to like and love, nor is it easy to let Roger go. While the virus has us laying low for now, our congregation is robust. We are loaded with talent and time and treasure. Florida will recover as a destination state, and our church will continue to be that needed oasis for progressive, free-thinking people who arrive here. Roger left at the end of March at the pinnacle of his career. He thanked us for that. While we cannot thank him yet with a proper celebration, we will have him back as soon as the skies clear. Our Board has adopted a clear Ministerial Transition plan to provide stability now, attract a highly qualified Interim Minister in summer 2020, and two years later, a new Settled Minister. We have a great deal to offer, and we will attract very talented candidates. All that is needed is our continued commitment. February 23rd was Pledge Sunday. It seems like so long ago. Roger led both services, and together we considered the future of our wonderful church. That has not changed.
