Tropical Storm Debbie floods campus in August, 2024:
Daily updates
At 11 am Monday morning, August 5, Ed loomis reported that "The parking lot Is the least of our problems. Look at the attached pictures. The entire campus is under about a foot of water, as is the Bobby Jones Road and much of the golf course. It's all one big lake. The water level is a few inches below the floor level of the buildings and there isn't any flood water in the buildings but there are a few roof leaks, nothing major.
"Don't try to drive over there as much of Fruitville Road is closed or flooded. If you were on campus you wouldn't be able to get out of your car unless you have high rubber boots, like garden boots. I stepped out of my car and immediately encountered a snake that looked like a cottonmouth. I touched it with my foot and it swam away. Snakes and other critters are a common problem with flooding. "
Ed's pictures, clocwise from top left, show flood waters surrounding our sign on Fruitville Road, the parking lot at the main entrance to the Lexow Wing with the East Wing on the right, a view toward the golf course from in front of the Lexow Wing with the playground on the right and the northern edge of the paved parking lot, showing the handicap signs.

August 6 update:
Campus Update: The waters are all gone and we are open for business. What a difference a day makes! There was no water intrusion from the recent floods so join us on campus for your meetings and events.
You may have noticed in these pictures that the first of two of the Embracing Our Differences banners was put up on the outside of the Lexow Wing. Thanks to Paul Scholl, Chris Bonner and Sawyer Porteus for their efforts. It looks beautiful.

August 7 update:

Subject: Flood water is pretty much gone
It's hard to believe but most of the campus flood water is gone, drained or absorbed. The Bobby Jones golf course drainage ditch still looks like a small river but most of the course is free of water. We still have muddy wet parking but it will probably be usable by Sunday. Most of the campus is pretty much clear of debris so clean up should not be too bad.
